Margot Kidder, who played Superman's Lois Lane, dies aged 69

Margot Kidder passed away at her home in Livingston, Montana at the age of 69 on Sunday, which was Mother's Day.

Superman, directed by Richard Donner and released in 1978, was a superhero blockbuster two decades before comic book movies became the norm at the top of the box office.

Margot was most famous for playing Superman's leading lady, Lois Lane, in the 1978 movie alongside Christopher Reeve, as well as in the following three sequels.

She also starred as Kathy Lutz in "The Amityville Horror" (1979), and appeared in movies such as "Black Christmas" (1974) and "Heartaches" (1981). I'll miss you Margo Kidder.

Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane on the 1990s television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, said that it was "a privilege" to have shared a role with "wonderful actress" Kidder.

In 2016, Kidder told entertainment website Hey U Guys that her chemistry with Reeve was authentic "because we came from similar backgrounds and he looked like one of my brothers". "We didn't have to create a different reality".

"We quarreled all the time", Kidder said on May 9 in an interview on radio station WWJ in Detroit, where she had been scheduled to appear at Motor City Comic Con later this month.

"On-screen she was magic", the Star Wars actor said. "Off-screen she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring woman [sic] I've ever known", he tweeted.

The Reeve Family and Foundation said it was "deeply saddened" by Kidder's death.

Hollywood soon beckoned and a move to Los Angeles led to roles on TV shows including "McQueen", "Mod Squad" and "Nichols".

Brandon Routh, who portrayed Superman in 2006's Superman Returns, also hailed Kidder for openly discussing her own battles with mental health.

She dated then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in the 1980s, calling him the "love of my life, my true love" in her radio interview last week.

She was married and divorced three times and is survived by her only child, daughter Maggie, and three children.
