Mom of 2 slain kids says nanny tried to destroy her family

Yoselyn Ortega in court in Manhattan, May 14, 2018.

At trial, the DA's team said the nanny knew what she was doing. "It is right that she should live and rot and die in a metal case, like the ugly and dark shadow of Lulu and Leo's bright and shiny lights".

Ortega was convicted last month in the deaths of 6-year-old Lucia Krim and 2-year-old Leo Krim and was sentenced Monday.

The couple advised how Ortega robbed them of their kids and the way her household and pals helped with this by mendacity to them about her persona and expertise.

The judge expressed some understanding for Oretga regarding her mental illness and said it could mitigate some of her responsibility.

Marina Krim, 41, went a step further, and called out the "evil defendant" and her "entire family of bad, unethical people".

The Manhattan nanny who butchered two children in 2012 was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole plus 50 years, capping a harrowing story that has gripped the city for almost six years.

Ortega fatally stabbed Leo Krim, 2, and his sister Lucia, 6, in their Upper West Side apartment on October 25, 2012.

Lulu and Leo's mother Marina Krim came home that day in 2012 and found her daughter and son dead in their bathtub. The final days of the hearing revealed astonishing facts about the killer nanny, her family, and the murders. When Marina and Nessie returned home, around 5:30 p.m., Marina went to the bathroom, and opened the door. Their father was out of town. For the murders of Lulu and Leo Krim, the 55-year-old nanny from the Dominican Republic was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors had argued that Ms. Ortega was angry about her workload and schedule and killed the children to spite their mother.

Discussing in Spanish through a translator, she also said had been "sorry for whatever", adding she expected for "a good deal of forgiveness". Saying he agreed with a witness's assessment that Ortega was "pure evil", Judge Carro sentenced her to spend "the rest of your life in state prison with no possibility of parole". Jurors heard heart-wrenching testimony from Marina Krim, who spoke of coming home to her eerily quiet apartment and finding her children covered in blood in the back bathroom.

"You will know a diseased mind when you see it", Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, Ms. Ortega's lawyer, told jurors at the start of the trial.

The youngsters's mother and father Kevin and Marina Krim, demanded the utmost sentence for the nanny - who left their kids's our bodies stacked within the bathtub of their NY house.
