Ryan Sessegnon puts Fulham in Championship play-off final

Gary Rowett felt Derby County were let down by a lack of composure at Craven Cottage on Monday night, but he believes that his side gave everything in defeat against Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final.

The Cottagers find out who they will face in the final on Tuesday, when Villa take a one-goal advantage over Boro back to the West Midlands.

After a disappointing display in the first leg at Pride Park on Friday, Fulham - beaten by Reading at the same stage last season - were much more of a threat in the return.

Mitrovic joined Fulham on loan from Newcastle United during the January transfer window, and the centre-forward has netted 12 Championship goals in the second half of the campaign.

Craig Bryson's challenge on Mitrovic just before the break had the Serb demanding a penalty but his appeal was waved away by referee Chris Kavanagh.

Teenager Sessegnon first fired into the top corner from close range, before Odoi flicked in a header from a corner.

The onslaught continued and 19 minutes later the hosts found the goal that put Wembley in sight when Odoi climbed highest from a corner to head home into the far corner.

However, if Fulham are able to earn promotion, they stand a much better chance of keeping hold of the man who has been tipped to be a surprise call-up to Gareth Southgate's squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

But for us, we've got to use that disappointment to look at things we need to do better. But well done to the boys.

"We showed a lot of character to get into the play-offs in the first place", Rowett added.

And in turning round a first-leg deficit, they became only the second team out of 17 in a Championship play-off to lose the opening tie and then go through.

And the Fulham boss said: "I'm not Santa Claus, I am a football coach, and I don't give any of my players presents. I have to be satisfied for the work on the field".
