Amber Alert canceled: Tulsa girl found safe, mom in custody

Police in Oklahoma are searching for a woman who allegedly torched her home and stabbed her 11-year-old daughter on Monday before taking off with her 7-year-old daughter.

Ahmad was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, child abuse and first-degree arson. She is accused of stabbing her 11-year-old daughter and setting her house on fire. Authorities found the pair after someone nearby saw them and called the police.

Police believe Ahmad fled with the youngest girl.

Police say the 11-year-old is still in the hospital fighting for her life. She is now in severe condition and is now intubated.

Police arrived at the house 39-year-old Tahirah Ahmad (Taheerah Ahmad), which is located in the North Tulsa, Oklahoma Monday evening after witnesses reported the incident.

An Amber Alert says Ahmad could also be driving a black Lexus RX300 SUV with paper tags, a 2011 Ford Escape or a navy blue Ford sedan.

Police said the woman drove away from the area with the youngest daughter in her vehicle. However, she said there "have been some issues talked about within the family".

Ahmad told investigators during interviews Tuesday afternoon that she became upset after observing her children reading a book, although it was not known what book they were reading.

"The way she carried herself and the way she was with her children".

An Amber Alert was issued for the 7-year-old girl.

"I think that really helps us because it allows us to inform the public that we've got something serious that we need their help with", Tuell said.

"They would go over there and play", said Cummings.

"If this had gone on, your guess is as good as mine on what the outcome could have been", he said. This seven-year-old is in extreme danger according to Oklahoma Police. The aunt also notified police, which prompted a manhunt.
