Joe Hart has been told he will not be part of England's 23-man squad heading to the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Southgate submitted a 35-man preliminary list for his World Cup names on Monday, with the final 23-man selection to be announced on Wednesday.

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly set to miss out on a place in England's World Cup squad.

Lallana made his latest comeback in Sunday's 4-0 win over Brighton, but made just one Premier League start all season.

The 26-year-old, who has suffered from numerous injuries in recent years and the Gunners midfielder hope of traveling to Russian Federation after forcing his way back into contention over the past few months and Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out for six months.

The City goalkeeper had spent the campaign on loan at the London Stadium, where his form was indifferent.

Southgate will hope to improve on England's showing in recent tournaments after they were knocked out in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup and the round of 16 at Euro 2016.

Meanwhile, Fabian Delph, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Harry Maguire are expected to make the cut. The 28-year-old, naturally a central midfielder, has played 29 times for City this season having been successfully remodelled as a left-back by Pep Guardiola.

Hart's omission means the experienced trio of Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and the uncapped Nick Pope will be Southgate's options between the sticks.

"Gareth Southgate is good at judging people and likes to see what mentality people have, and he's well aware of my mindset".
