Wife attacked former US Open champ over bad round

Krista Glover, the wife of former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, was arrested Saturday on charges related to domestic violence during the weekend of The Players Championship.

Krista Glover, 36, was arrested by St. Johns County Sheriff's deputies late Saturday in a house the couple had rented during the tournament at Sawgrass TPC in Ponte Vedra Beach. Glover posted a note to Twitter saying, "On May 12, my wife and mother were involved in an argument to which the police were called".

Golf World reported that a document from the St Johns County Sheriff's department states Lucas was berated by his wife for his poor play (he shot a third-round 78 for a MDF - made cut, did not finish).

Glover and his mother were both found with lacerations on their arms, while his mother also had blood on her clothes.

Glover won the 2009 U.S. Open and has two other career PGA wins, with the most recent coming at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2011.

Krista also allegedly threatened to leave him with their children and that he would "never see their kids again", the report said.

Once inside, Krista allegedly damaged the vehicle by kicking the door.

Lucas Glover released a statement on his Twitter account regarding the incident. "Lucas advised me every time he plays poorly in a tournament, Krista begins yelling at him, stating he is a "loser" and "p*ssy" and ultimately starting an altercation with him about his performance", the report said.

Hershey Glover, the golfer's mother, allegedly attempted to intervene on her son's behalf.

Lucas told cops that Krista was drinking heavily that day before the fight. She wrapped her legs and feet around the door and frame of the auto, preventing the lower half of her body from getting into the vehicle. Authorities were kind enough to loosen her handcuffs in the auto as they were transporting her, which turned out to be a awful idea because she attempted to flee their custody.

"Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter", he tweeted.

Krista Glover has been charged with the assault of her husband, PGA Tour golfer Lucas Glover.
