65-year-old Justify trainer Bob Baffert listens to Post Malone daily

65-year-old Justify trainer Bob Baffert listens to Post Malone daily

Justify drew the No. 7 post position and is undefeated in four starts. Baffert's four other Derby winners - Silver Charm, Real Quiet, War Emblem and American Pharoah - were all victorious two weeks later in Baltimore.

Baffert said the plan was for an easy piece of exercise under Humberto Gomez Thursday morning.

"He was ready to do a lot more", Baffert said, "but we didn't want to do too much". And [Justify] is pretty fit. I can see taking him back a little, maybe in sixth, but within striking range of the leaders.

Good luck, and enjoy the race! "I don't want to run any faster, just keeping at that same level".

Looking out through the grandstand window onto the wet track Thursday morning during the Alibi Breakfast, Quip trainer Rodolphe Brisset said the muddy surface looks worse than it really is.

Justify had an impressive win at the Kentucky Derby and will be the horse to beat.

The Hall of Fame trainer is seeking a record-tying seventh victory in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.

"I'm just happy with the way he went around there", he added. "I don't like being 50-1". That's in comparison to The Kentucky Derby's 2017 crowd of 158,070 fans and wagers totaling more than $209 million, as reported by the Louisville Courier Journal. When you come in thinking that you're going to need the Stanford marching band to interfere with it, you don't feel that well.

Friday's forecast: High of 66 degrees with 100 percent chance of rain. The undercard will start at 2:30 p.m. ET. Justify became only the second horse ever to win the Kentucky Derby without racing as a 2-year-old, joining Apollo, the 1882 victor of the Run for the Roses. In addition, Justify's sire, Scat Daddy, and his dam's sire, Ghostzapper, have seen 15 and 19 percent of their progeny, respectively, win in the slop.

The horse won on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs, so the prediction of rain on Saturday (Sunday AEST) didn't seem to bother Baffert. "He looks terrific, he's doing well". Sometimes they don't run well, but I have a lot of faith in him. "He's going to be very, very hard to handle".

"There is a big difference when you are riding with pressure when you are the favorite".

Good Magic's trainer, Chad Brown, won the Preakness past year with Cloud Computing.

Like the Derby, The Preakness is laced in its own rich history. Sporting Chance finished fourth in the Grade III Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs by eight lengths.

The rest of the Preakness field will be made up of non-Derby entrants, including Federico Tesio-winning local hope Diamond King, trained by John Servis, as well as Lexington Stakes third-place finisher Pony Up, trained by Todd Pletcher.

Shortly after the horse arrived in Baltimore on Wednesday, Baffert joked that he might consult with a "good weatherman" about when he should work Justify out before the race. So if you find Lukas sneaky in spots like this, you can put both his horses - Bravazo and Sporting Chance - in the trifecta box instead with Justify and Good Magic. "I just knew he was capable of this".

Good Magic is trained by Chad Brown, and after initially saying he did not want to challenge Justify at Pimlico Race Course, he changed his mind as his charge has looked good in training. And one thing that we try to do is hire trainers who are very good at their craft.
