Fortnite: Epic Games Confirms Rumored Mode

Instead of manipulating the core game, the Solo Showdown event is a test for esports that will send ripples into Fortnite's future. With millions of downloads and active players between the two games, gamers' battle royale fervor was bound to entice competitors to enter the market. A new limited time event mode is going live as well, following up the exciting Avengers: Infinity War crossover, but this event is a bit different from all the others. Not only does the Fortnite Solo Showdown use a leaderboard system and grant epic bragging rights, it also allows the best of the best to earn V-Bucks.

Running for a limited time, Solo Showdown is pretty much the same as the regular Solo Battle Royale version, except the players have their victories recorded and ranked, Forbes reports. Upon the conclusion of each match, you'll earn a number of points based upon your final positioning.

The new mode plays just like any other standard solo match, 100 players drop onto their location of choice in the map, gather supplies, kill everyone else while trying not to get killed themselves, rinse and repeat until they're either dead or the only one left standing. The big reward of the game mode is V-Bucks-the game's currency for cosmetic items. 2nd through 4th will get 25,000 V-Bucks.

The player who comes in first by the end of the competition will take home a whopping 50,000 V-Bucks. Solo Showdown begins today and ends on May 21, 2018 at 10 AM Eastern, with Epic saying that more information about competitive play will be coming next week. There's 50,000 V-Bucks in store for first place, 25,000 V-Bucks for those ranked second through fourth, 13,500 V-Bucks for fifth to 50th, and 7,500 V-Bucks for the rest.

Epic apparently has more up their sleeves as far as competitive Fortnite goes.
