Pep Guardiola signs new three-year contract with Manchester City

Manchester City saw no competition from other teams this season in their race to secure the title but the closest that gave a challenge was Jose Mourinho's Manchester United even the dethroned Premier League Champion Chelsea was unable to put up a fight to defend the title they won a year ago.

"We became the first side in English football to achieve 100 points in a top-flight campaign and we also posted the most goals and wins in Premier League history".

"I am so happy and excited. It's a pleasure to work here", he said.

"When we feel things are not going well, we are going to change and I am going to make a step back".

Guardiola's decision to commit himself to a new deal means, in theory, he will spend longer managing City than he did either Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

We have all been privileged to witness how we have played handsome football, won titles, broken records and reached the incredible mark of 100 Premier League points. But I have confidence with the club, with the chairman [Khaldoon Al Mubarak], with [director of football] Txiki [Begiristain]. From where I want to play, how I want to play, with who I want to play with and how we are doing it.

"I am very much looking forward to the continued impact of his work and to fulfilling our shared ambitions in the coming seasons", he said.

Guardiola failed to win a trophy in his first season at City - the first time in his managerial career that he ended a campaign without silverware.

But to be fair to Ronaldo, he scored 118 times in 292 appearances for United and won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and one Champions League during his time at Old Trafford.

City also won the Premier League in 2011-12 and 2013-14, and Shearer believes that to "be a great team" City must win again next season.

"Manchester City Football Club are delighted to announce that manager Pep Guardiola has signed a contract extension keeping him at the Club until 2021", the club stated.
