RED Hydrogen One is coming to AT&T and Verizon 'later this summer'

While it is capable of displaying standard 2D images, the Hydrogen will have a unique and revolutionary 4-View mode with the ability to "look around, below, and into" the screen image. Clearly, the market-leading telecommunications giants strongly believe in Hydrogen One's potential to "change the way you capture video and immerse yourself in mobile entertainment".

At least now RED has unveiled which carriers will sell the phone — Verizon and AT&T. The Hydrogen One "holographic media machine" is billed as the world's first holographic phone with a 4-View (essentially, 3D without glasses). It has a 5.7-inch screen that's created to offer a 4-View (4V) "holographic mode" which displays a "better than 3D image" without glasses, according to Red founder Jim Jannard.

The makers of the Hydrogen One recently stated that the phone was now expected in August, albeit with upgraded cameras that had not been previously announced. AT&T has announced that it will be selling the phone to customers starting this summer.

We don't have an exact release date for the RED Hydrogen One, but Verizon says it will be available "later this year". RED is no longer taking pre-orders, which had been priced at $1295 for an aluminum version and $1595 for a titanium model.

Amid prerelease hype and speculation over Red Digital Cinema's Hydrogen One smartphone, which is said to incorporate a new type of holographic display, carrier AT&T said it will host an exclusive public demo of the technology at the second-annual AT&T Shape tech confab, coming up June 2-3 at Warner Bros. Neither carrier listed a specific launch date, with AT&T saying only that the phone would be available "later this summer".
