Cohen distances himself from tax-cheating 'Taxi King'

A NY taxi operator pleaded guilty Tuesday to improperly pocketing $5 million in state tax money and has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors as they investigate President Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, according to a person familiar with the case.

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, who is engaged in a legal battle against Trump, told the BBC that "Suspicious Activity Reports" filed by Cohen's bank to the US Treasury Department showed money from Ukrainian interests. That likelihood may now be greater, with Mr. Freidman potentially sharing what he knows with federal prosecutors in NY and the special counsel.

Freidman's cooperation agreement could be a significant development for Cohen, whose personal business practices are under investigation by the USA attorney for the Southern District of NY. Freidman faced allegations that he failed to pay $5 million in taxes, including four counts of tax fraud and one of grand larceny. "Michael is dear dear personal friend and a passive client!"

"Today, the "Taxi King" admitted that he built his empire by stealing from New Yorkers", said Attorney General Barbara Underwood, who was confirmed just hours earlier as the state's top law enforcement officer.

Ukraine Denies Paying Trump Lawyer for White House Meeting

A longtime business associate of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has arranged a plea deal for himself to avoid a lofty prison sentence, and he is now working with the Special Prosecutor's office. "Freidman pocketed money that should have provided much-needed investment in our transit system - and now he'll have to pay back every cent". The value of those medallions collapsed during the past three years as ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft surged in popularity, putting both men in trouble with lenders.

President's personal lawyer Michael Cohen, put on your kicky blazer and gather up your mob pals, because today is another day to smoke cigars in the face of YOU GOING TO JAIL.

"Gene Friedman and I are not partners and have never been partners in this business or any other", Cohen tweeted on Wednesday. NY medallions, valued at over $1 million apiece as recently as 2014, now sell for about $120,000-mostly through bankruptcy and foreclosure sales.

Sources in Kiev say the payment was made by intermediaries acting for the President Petro Poroshenko, even though Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by U.S. law. Cohen was not registered as a foreign agent of Ukraine under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act when the agreement was inked, the report indicated. The Real Deal reported in February that Freidman managed Cohen's taxi medallions until April 2017.
