Amazon expands Whole Foods discounts to Prime members in North Carolina

Amazon continues to bring its new Whole Foods discounts across the nation. Amazon Prime members in Hawaii on Wednesday are scheduled to be eligible for special discounts at Whole Foods Market stores - such as $9-per-pound savings on sustainably caught yellowfin tuna steaks, Amazon and Whole Foods announced today.

The tech giant's announcement comes days before it plans to open its highly anticipated Charlotte store on Stonewall Street uptown.

The lucky customers living in these states (21 so far) get 10 percent off sale items, as well as access to exclusives discounts.

To participate, Prime customers should download the Whole Foods Market app, sign in with their Amazon account and then scan the app's Prime Code at checkout. Amazon began offering the discounts to shoppers in select markets in May.

Echo devices sold near the checkout registers have been acting as a constant reminder of the new parent company, but there have also been clear benefits, mostly in the form of discounts for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon first announced the deal earlier this month at stores in Florida, and expanded it to 12 more states in late May.

Since buying Whole Foods last summer for $13.7 billion, Amazon has been expanding perks at the grocery chain, including lowering prices on a number of grocery staples, including cereal, vegetables, beef and fruit.
