Crawford beats Horn to claim WBO title

Crawford beats Horn to claim WBO title

You only have to walk 100 metres from the foyer to be offered cocaine or prostitutes and, nearby, pedestrians were this week treated to the sight of an elderly, near-naked couple rolling along the concrete, copulating on the footpath before a cop shone a flash light into their bleary eyes.

The 30-year-old Crawford remains undefeated (33-0) in his career, and now is a three-division champion, becoming just the sixth fighter to win titles in lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight. He stripped naked, yet still was half-a-pound heavy when he stepped on it again.

With a bevy of punches in the ninth round, Terence Crawford solidified his case as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world.

Horn said he had tested his weight earlier on the official set of scales provided to his team by Top Rank, alleging the Bob Arum-run company, who are the promoters for Crawford, had sabotaged him. He suspects it was deliberate.

"I think they think I'm a bit mentally weaker than I actually am".

Crawford added, "He came in there with the intention of roughing me up and getting aggressive but the thing he didn't understand was how strong I was, so I think they underestimated that aspect". "I wouldn't say I was getting bored at 140, but it was getting kind of boring, and now you got all these fighters at 147 that have names for themselves, and that makes for an exciting division". There was a bit of play with the scales. There is, however, every reason for him to think hard about the pros and cons of going back to square one and attempting to blast his way back into world title contention again.

By the second round, Crawford was timing in the rushes and working Horn around the belt.

Crawford was comfortably under the weight at 146.5lb on his first try.

Crawford's straight left hand was the punch to knock Horn down in the ninth round.

"I coud have kept him guessing, maybe I was a bit predictable".

The first step in Crawford's takeover of the welterweight division was moving up in weight and claiming the WBO title.

After the bout, Crawford said he wanted to take on the other champions in the division, per the ESPN+ live stream.

Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton said the battle with the scales was just an annoyance rather than a drama.

"We allowed for a margin of error but we get down here and they were out by more than a pound". But taking home a disputed hometown decision against an aging fighter is simply a different challenge from the one facing Horn on Saturday. In the end, Crawford was just too good. He doesn't look gaunt like he has for other fights.

Crawford, meanwhile, looked like he was having fun.

Jeff Horn v Terence Crawford Pay Per View will be broadcast on Foxtel Channel 507.

Horn created boxing history last July on one of the greatest ever days in Queensland sport history when he rode a tide of emotion to win the World Boxing Organisation welterweight title from Pacquiao before more than 51,000 people at Suncorp Stadium.

On Saturday, June 9, Top Rank held an event from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

America's Crawford, the former undisputed super lightweight world title holder, outclassed the Aussie who was defending the title he won in a huge upset of Manny Pacquiao in July of previous year in Brisbane.
