First Game Of Thrones Prequel Pilot Ordered | News

Martin has made it clear in previous Q&As and panels that any upcoming Game of Thrones series will not be spinoffs, and none of them will feature any member of the current cast. In the midst of this cold climate, the White Walkers soon descended upon Westoros from the north and engaged in a long war in an attempt to cover the world in an interminable winter.

If Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has his way, the drama's recently ordered spinoff pilot will be called The Long Night. All of the successor shows we've been developing have been prequels, as I have mentioned before.

Game of Thrones fans celebrated last week when HBO revealed it's ordered a pilot of one of the five possible successor shows to the fantasy hit. More likely HBO will want to work the phrase "game of thrones" in there somewhere.

I'm not very well-versed in all-things-Game of Thrones, but a trip over to the Song of Ice and Fire Wiki tells me that the Long Night "is how the Westerosi refer to a period when a bad darkness fell across the Known World. The Long Night lasted a generation and laid waste through starvation and terror".

In his blog post, Martin also confirmed that one of the concepts had been "shelved... but that does not mean the others are dead". If I wasn't busy with Winds, don't you think I'd be scripting one or more of these pilots myself?

The network's official description says that the prequel will be set "thousands of years" before the events of "Game of Thrones". "But this is television, so nothing is certain".

Naturally, most of the details are still under wraps, but we do know that Goldman and Thrones novelist George RR Martin came up with the basic story, which Goldman turned into a script.
