Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri after Nabil Fekir deal falls through

Liverpool suffered at times last season with a lack of replacements in wide positions, as highlighted in their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid when Salah went off injured and could only be replaced by Adam Lallana.

Etebo, nominally an attacking midfielder but can play on the flanks, is Stoke's first acquisition under newly installed boss Gary Rowett - who succeeded Paul Lambert following his unsuccessful effort in maintaining their Premier League status - and much-travelled coach is pleased with his impending arrival.

Shaqiri is set to leave current club Stoke City this summer following on from their relegation from the Premier League.

He has been capped 14 times by Nigeria and came on as a substitute in last week's friendly defeat against England at Wembley.

Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri's representatives as the Reds look to add a multi-functional forward to their side.

But 26-year-old Shaqiri, formerly of Bayern Munich, is viewed as a bargain and supplied eight goals and seven assists last season despite playing in a goal-shy Stoke side.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Shaqiri's brother and agent met with Liverpool officials last Friday to discuss a possible move to Anfield and that talks are also ongoing with several other clubs - though the player himself is now away in Russian Federation preparing for the World Cup.

Etebo will join the Potters in preparing for life in the English Championship, immediately after Nigeria's campaign at the World Cup.

"Etebo is a very mobile, energetic midfielder and he's a great age". And after impressing in a loan spell with Las Palmas, he has now completed a big money move to Stoke.
