Real Madrid Appoint Lopetegui to Replace Zidane

Real Madrid Appoint Lopetegui to Replace Zidane

If Spain fail to impress at the World Cup, then Lopetegui will head to Real Madrid under a cloud that will make an already difficult job even harder.

Zinedine Zidane said Monday he was happy to have some time off after stepping down as Real Madrid coach just days after steering the Spanish giants to a third successive Champions League trophy.

"They realised very quickly that Klopp has got a very close link with Liverpool and couldn't get him out of there, and with Conte they weren't sure he was what was needed for Real Madrid".

"After that, it was a case of guessing for us".

Julen Lopetegui will join the club after the participation of the Spanish team in the World Cup, after two years leading the national team.

"And with Conte, they weren't sure about if that was what's needed for Real Madrid".

Lopetegui, who has been in charge of the national team for the past two years, has agreed a three-year contract at the Bernabeu.

But it seems Madrid knew prizing away Tottenham's main man, Pochettino, would have been a different matter altogether especially after the former Espanyol boss recently signed a new five-year deal.

Spain are the only team in Russian Federation who have remained undefeated from Euro 2016 to the World Cup.

"So I think everybody will be happy with it, but mostly because Real were surprised by the departure of Zidane and had to react as soon as possible".

"I didn't stop to want to take the team of France".

According to BBC, he began coaching in 2003 as assistant manager to Spain's Under-17 team.

Lopetegui is one of very few players to feature for both Real Madrid and Barcelona in his club career, and coached Los Blancos' B team around a decade ago.
