Spain manager Julen Lopetegui announced as Real coach

Real Madrid have announced that Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui will take over as their manager after the World Cup in Russian Federation.

The Spanish giants broke the news in a Tweet on Tuesday.

Real have announced that after the tournament he will take over at the Bernabeu, stepping into the role that Zidane Zidane vacated following his shock departure at the end of May - just days after guiding Real to a third consecutive Champions League title.

Last month, the former Porto boss signed a contract extension to remain as Spain coach until 2020 but the call of Madrid has proved too strong to resist. They also scored 36 goals, and their form means they are one of the favourites ahead of the tournament in Russian Federation.

Lopetegui is now in Russian Federation preparing the Spanish squad for the World Cup.

Real Madrid have announced that Spain boss Julen Lopetegui has been appointed as the club's new head coach.

Lopetegui has endured a mixed managerial career thus far, but has history with Los Blancos, having managed the club's B team between 2008 and 2009. That U21 side featured the likes of David De Gea, Thiago, Koke and Rodrigo Moreno, all of whom have made it into the Spain squad for this summer's World Cup.

He began coaching in 2003 as assistant manager to Spain's Under-17 team and was also in charge of the Under-19s, Under-20s and Under-21s, before moving to Porto. They also play Morocco and Iran in the group stages.
