Actress Rose McGowan indicted on cocaine charge in Virginia

Actress Rose McGowan has been formally charged by grand jury officials in her drug possession case.

On Monday, the actress was indicted by a grand jury in the ongoing case, in which she's been hit with one felony count of cocaine possession.

According to court documents filed in February, Jessica Carmichael, McGowan's then-defense attorney, pointed out that five hours had passed between the time when her client left the plane, where she forgot her wallet, and the cleaning staff found it.

A trial date will be set in Loudoun County, Virginia on Tuesday.

She has maintained her innocence; her lawyers have argued that someone planted the cocaine, possibly someone connected to Weinstein.

'These charges would have never been brought if it weren't for her activism as a voice for women everywhere.

Activist McGowan has maintained the cocaine is not hers, and suggested in court papers that the drugs were planted at the behest of Weinstein.

In the incident, police claim to have found several small bags of white powder in the star's wallet, which she left behind on an airplane after arriving at Washington Dulles International.

"It is now public knowledge that Weinstein employed underhanded tactics to "silence" his victims", she wrote.

He has denied all accusations.

McGowan had previously fought to have the charges dismissed at a preliminary hearing, but was unsuccessful.

If convicted, McGowan could spend up to a year behind bars.
