Giroud expected to be fit, Pogba to start against Australia - Deschamps

"Petit, who won the World Cup on home soil in 1998 alongside current France boss Didier Deschamps, added: "Something I have been saying for ages is that Didier has a luxury that former managers didn't have in terms of options".

For example, the duo netted 14 goals, assisted 13, created 65 chances and completed 97 take-ons between them.

While France striker Antoine Griezmann battled away with a few half-hearted attempts, the cutting edge in front of goal kept evading him.

Pogba was named as FIFA's Best Young Player of the 2014 World Cup, but the 25-year-old has been criticised for his inconsistency by fans of Manchester United and Les Bleus in recent years.

"He's more talented than any midfielder of my generation".

The Frenchman started his campaign in fine form but an injury ultimately cost him his momentum and when he returned he struggled to put in top performances.

With France's squad being packed full of midfield talent, Pogba will not be gifted a spot in the side and he will instead have to fight hard to make sure he stays ahead in the pecking order over the likes of Corentin Tolisso and Steven N'Zonzi.

Tolisso, though, completed 3.6 long balls per game in the Bundesliga and completed 90% of his passes (Pogba 85%), with a longer average length (17.95m) than Pogba (16.67m).

N'Golo Kante will also play in the French midfield, but the other spot is up for grabs between Blaise Matuidi of Juventus and Bayern Munich's Corentin Tolisso.

Former France global Emmanuel Petit has challenged compatriot Paul Pogba to "get angry" at the World Cup this summer.
