Twitterverse has fun with IHOb Name Change

The company previously known as the International House of Pancakes has rebranded as the International House of Burgers, according to a tweet from the restaurant.

We were skeptical of IHOP's ability to craft burgers that matched its pancakes in quality. For a short period of time, IHOP, the legendary house of pancakes is transforming itself into the house of burgers.

IHOP's president, Darren Rebelez, told Business Insider on Monday that he was unconcerned by other chains' jabs.

The hints of a name change had spurred guesses on social media - and some disappointment Monday at what was revealed.

You are a brand known for pancakes, the type of wholesome spot you take your grandpa or your kid's soccer team.

DineEquity, the company that owns IHOP/IHOb and also the Applebee's chain, sought to assure customers that nothing had really changed.

IHOP has temporarily changed its name to IHOb.

"Then there's the matter of obscuring IHOP's hard-won reputation as a place to go for the first meal of the day", Millman continues. A bold move if you ask me, considering that they are located right across the street from In n' Out Burger.

"Don't worry, Pancakers. We still love pancakes".

"As it relates 'IHOb, ' I will say that they've done a great job at creating anticipation for what it was all about", says Bill McLaughlin, SVP Sales & Marketing at ShopAdvisor.

The International House of Burgers did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap.

"Let the record show that the original IHOP/IHOb tweet was liked 21,000 times in around seven hours, while the Wendy's reply got more than 96,000 likes in roughly half that time", reports NPR's Bill Chappell.

The name change may be daunting for IHOP fans, but they shouldn't worry. "B-hold! #IHOb", the company said in its tweet.
