Vivo NEX and its elevating camera are now official

After being in the leaks from the last couple of months, the Vivo NEX was officially listed on Vivo's official website ahead of the launch. On the security front, the phone has a game-changing third generation under-display fingerprint sensor. Other local manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei are also using the in-display fingerprint scanning technology on their latest high-end devices, but we are yet to see it present on a widely-available device, even moreso on one that could be bought in the United States of A.

As far as we can tell, the only serious issue with both Nex handsets is availability. With the notch-free Ultra FullView™ Display, NEX fulfills the bezel-less dream and features an industry-leading 91.24% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to multiple industry-first technologies.

Of course, a Snapdragon 845 chipset sits behind the wheel with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or the whopping 256GB of internal storage. The smartphone is also the most premium device yet from the Chinese smartphone maker.

Internationally, the Vivo NEX featuring Snapdragon 710 SoC is known as Vivo NEX A. The 128 GB and 256 GB NEX Ultimate variants are internationally known as Vivo NEX and Vivo NEX S. The front-facing camera now extends and retracts from the top of the device whenever someone wants to photograph themselves or make video calls. From being the first to put a Hi-Fi audio chip in a smartphone, launching the world's thinnest smartphone at the time of its release, to taking the first In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology to market, time and again Vivo has revolutionized and propelled the mobile user experience to another level. The one slight disappointment is that the 6.59-inch Super AMOLED screen only has an FHD+ resolution, most likely 2160×1080.

The quest for coming up with the ultimate bezel-less device has bore tons of fruit already. NEX demonstrates Vivo's determination to test the limits and break industry conventions. Also keeping in line with modern trends is a dual-lens camera system on the back, that combines 12- and 5-megapixel sensors. Vivo continues to pursue the ultimate AI photography technologies with AI Scene Recognition, AI HDR, AI Filters and AI Photo Composition. Vivo has also added a 4000mAh battery. Jovi can be used to launch apps, operate as per voice commands and perform other standard smart assistant tasks. The Vivo NEX shows us what is next in the smartphone technology including the pop-up camera.

Vivo is also selling a base variant of the NEX with a Snapdragon 710 along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which will be available for ¥3,898 ($610).

The device is available for pre-orders from tomorrow (13 June) and will be available in stores from June 23 in China.
