Volvo confirms 'Polestar Engineered' upgrade for new S60

That means more power - the new S60 T8 will go from 400 hp and 472 lb-ft to 415 hp and 494 lb-ft - Brembo monoblock six-piston brakes with increased heat tolerance, Ohlins shocks with dual-flow valves and lightweight wheels that "show off the eye-catching gold-painted, six-piston brake calipers, the new hallmark color for Polestar Engineered components".

Other changes include upgraded automatic transmission software, Öhlins shock absorbers, black chrome exhaust tips, new look alloy wheels, Polestar badges, and slotted disc brakes with Brembo calipers.

"The new S60 T8 Polestar Engineered is an electrified vehicle that does what you want it to", explains Volvo's senior VP of R&D Henrik Green.

Recall, Polestar is now a standalone brand so will no longer be building dedicated performance offerings for Volvo like the current S60 and V60 Polestar models.

Given Polestar's focus on electric performance, the first Polestar Engineered upgrade is for a plug-in hybrid version of the new S60, in this case the range-topping S60 T8 Twin Engine which combines a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 at the front axle with an electric motor at the rear.

Nonetheless, this latest S60 - Volvo's premiere sports sedan, says Samuelsson - is an impressive piece of kit. "This strategy is firmly grounded in our shared belief in an electric future for the vehicle industry". The strut brace that supports them to enhance front-end handling is also taken from the 1.

Volvo will reveal the new S60 next week at its first United States manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina. Seatbelt straps are gold, too, and the vehicle comes with Polestar emblems and black chrome exhaust pipes.

These upgrades will be shown in full when the production S60 saloon is revealed in the United States next week.

Henrik Green, senior vice-president of research and development at Volvo, said that the parts have been "fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver's car".
