Saudi team plane lands safely after mid-air fire scare

Russia's aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia said that during the landing there was a brief fire on one of the engines and that it would investigate the incident, Interfax reported.

Saudi Arabia face Uruguay on Wednesday at the Rostov Arena before finishing the group stages with a clash against Egypt next Monday in Volgograd.

"Nothing threatened the safety of the passengers".

Incredible footage captured by the Saudi team showed flames engulfing the wing as the plane touched down.


The Saudi team was seen calmly leaving the plane on its way to the team hotel in Rostov.

Association president Ahmad Al Harbi told Saudi sports TV channel KSA: "It was a small fire in one of the engines, the right engine, but the plane landed safely".

"The whole delegation is well", midfielder Hattan Bahebri said in a video shared on the team's official Twitter page.
