Serbia take on Switzerland in Group E with Brazil looming

Switzerland earned an impressive draw with Brazil thanks to a second-half goal in their first Group E game of the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

In a frenetic first half, Switzerland had more of the ball but were sloppy with it, giving away possession in advanced positions and sending Serbia on the break.

Serbia went in front in the fifth minute when Aleksandar Mitrovic, after missing a header moments earlier, rose above a Swiss defender and wonderfully guided a Dusan Tadic cross from the right past goalkeeper Yann Sommer and into the far corner. We have to give our best and we want to win the match. Surprisingly Milinković-Savić was not utilized in qualification for the World Cup, however, stand out performances for his club side convinced Krstajic to take the player to the tournament.

The Brazilians were frustrated by Switzerland's physical approach and also filed a complaint about Steven Zuber's equaliser after he appeared to push Miranda before nodding home. Compact and with a lot of experience.

Don't miss a moment of the World Cup! "Their coach is very good, too".

A reporter asked Petkovic how he would discuss the issue with his players, and the coach sidestepped the question. "But we were well prepared and could recover in the team hotel". Switzerland came right back into the game seven minutes after halftime thanks to Xhaka's fulminating strike after a rebound fell nicely into his path. Xhaka was nearly upstaged by Shaqiri who clipped the crossbar with a curling, dipping shot from the unlikeliest of angles and the match turned into a pulsating end-to-end affair which was brilliantly settled by Shaqiri. The Serbia forward amassed four shots against Costa Rica without scoring, having netted five goals in as many global appearances in 2018. "It's important to have this teamwork", said Arsenal-bound captain Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Tensions have been building in Serbia ahead of the Switzerland match.

It promises to be an interesting tie as Serbia take on Switzerland in Kaliningrad. It faced the Swiss 13 times as Yugoslavia, winning six (D5 L2).

Substitute Breel Embolo stung the hands of Stojkovic with a powerful effort from distance in the 82nd minute as Switzerland turned up the pressure late.
