Trump reverses family separation policy after backlash

I consider it to be a very important executive order.

After Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a "zero-tolerance" policy in dealing with migrants who cross into the US illegally, approximately 2,300 children were separated from their families since early May.

He said he was looking into whether the court could block deportation of parents until they have been reunited with their children, and whether it could force the Trump administration to reunite those separated.

Was your family split up after entering the US?

"I'll be signing something in a little while that's going to do that".

He also said he would be canceling the congressional picnic scheduled for Thursday because it didn't feel right to go on as scheduled.

"Under current law, we have only two policy options to respond to this massive crisis". The migrants are now being charged as criminals instead of the previous policy of treating the case as a civil matter, resulting in more than 2,300 children being separated from their parents. Families will also be prioritized in the adjudication process.

Nielsen, the president and other officials have repeatedly said the only way to end the practice is for Congress to pass new legislation, though both Democrats and some Republicans have said the president could reverse it with a simple phone call.

On "CBS This Morning" Monday, Kraft explained how the type of trauma experienced by children being separated from their parents at the border impacts them on a physiological level.

Executive orders typically require input from the Office of the Legal Counsel.

Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen famous for "following orders", pretending she isn't doing things that she's doing, and separating young children from their families, chose to have dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Yes.

Trump has been blasted by politicians, religious figures and the American public for his immigration policies.

"The dilemma is: If you're weak, which some people would like you to be, if you're really, really pathetically weak, the country's going to be overrun with millions of people". That's a tough dilemma. "But at the same time I think you have to understand we are keeping families together, but we have to keep our borders strong".

The President's decision came a day after he met Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill who fear that their own political prospects with the midterm elections are being damaged by the separation policy.

"Beyond this one problem of immigration- you can mention the word "comprehensive" or you don't have to use it", Mr. Trump said.

Secretary Treasury Steve Mnuchin, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were present at the White House meeting as well.

Also playing a role in the president's turnaround: First lady Melania Trump.

Trump had tweeted earlier Wednesday, "It's the Democrats fault, they won't give us the votes needed to pass good immigration legislation".

The order is a reversal for the president and his administration.

But Nielsen is on her way to the White House to discuss the issue with the president's team, according to one of the people.

House Republican leaders scrambled to produce a revised version of a broader immigration bill to include a provision to resolve the situation of family separations.

The House of Representatives was to vote on Thursday on two bills created to halt the practice of separating families and to address other immigration issues.
