Real Madrid to rival Liverpool for Lyon forward Fekir

Real Madrid to rival Liverpool for Lyon forward Fekir

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed why he did not sell Nabil Fekir to Liverpool , and has confirmed that Real Madrid could now sign the France worldwide.

The Lyon forward, now on global duty with France at the World Cup, looked likely to be joining Liverpool earlier this month, only for the move to (eventually) fall through. But perhaps the prolonged tale may take a fresh twist again and it looks like the deal could be resurrected after a big hint dropped by Lyon's President Jean-Michael Aulas.

Liverpool held Fekir's medical in Paris but were unconvinced by the condition of his knee and attempted to renegotiate a fee with Lyon. But perhaps Nabil Fekir denied the news about his injury and proclaimed his knee is "super good".

Lyon announced that talks with Liverpool had broken down and that the player would remain with Lyon.

If Liverpool are interested, it seems they may now have competition. I have always listened as a priority, the players are my sons. "I had given him the green light", he said.

Aulas added that Liverpool allegedly dragging their heels had opened the door to other clubs to try to sign Fekir, including European champions Real Madrid. It's true that because a move to Liverpool was not conclusive we sparked the interest of lots of other clubs and not just Real Madrid.

"There is a lot of interest from other camps, so everything is possible".

Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Asensio is concerned his lack of gametime for Spain at this summer's World Cup will affect his return to the Spanish capital in the coming weeks.

It's looking like there are going to be several overlapping elements to the transfer business of Real Madrid and Liverpool this summer.
