Fireworks are a big part of the Fourth of July celebration, but they're not a hit with everyone.

Myers, a retired firefighter, lost his enthusiasm for personal fireworks on the Fourth of July after losing his home in the Tubbs fire last October.

Settlers brought fireworks to the new world and on July 3, 1777, fireworks displays commemorated the fledgling country's first anniversary, just as they have each subsequent one. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

"CPSC works year round to help prevent deaths and injuries from fireworks", said Ann Marie Buerkle, the acting chairman of the CPSC. Fireworks are prohibited from being discharged on all publicly owned areas such as parks, streets, cul-de-sacs, public sidewalks or public-right-of-ways or any publicly owned parking lot/parking space or alley.

"With the hot weather we've had recently, the dry vegetation out there is especially susceptible to sparks of any kind, including from fireworks", Sonoma County Fire Marshal James Williams said Monday. Tickets are only $10, and gates open at 6:30. There will also be live music, festivities, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and entertainment in the surrounding areas. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. and can be viewed from the Safety Harbor Marina, 110 Veterans Memorial Lane.

Enjoy live music on the West Campus Lawn by local band Derinkuyu from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Derinkuyu is a Santa Barbara based band influenced by Afro-beat, Reggae, Hip Hop and Soul.


July 3 fireworks may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. on July 4, on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. on Dec. 25, and on Dec. 31, fireworks may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. January 1.

Surf City festivities start at 10 a.m. with a parade and ends with fireworks from the Huntington Beach Pier at 9 p.m.

Suwannee 4th of July Celebration July 7, 2018 11 a.m. -10 p.m. The picnic features food, rides, games, music and booths.

Scarpelli added the department has issued six citations for illegal fireworks use or possession so far this year. Starts at 2 p.m. with fireworks at 9 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:35 p.m.

"I'm going to celebrate the 4th every day!"

Features family-friendly activities, onsite food and drinks, prize giveaways, and more. A firework display closes the evening.
