Keri Russell In Talks For ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Golden Globe victor Keri Russell (The Americans, Felicity, Free State of Jones) will be teaming up once again with award-winning writer-director-producer J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Westworld) on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, Variety has confirmed.

The star of Waitress and Austenland is in negotiations to costar in the upcoming saga film, sources tell EW, although the deal isn't finalized yet.

The galaxy far, far away has just gotten a little bit bigger. Russell and Abrams last collaborated on 2006's "Mission: Impossible III".

Abrams and Lucasfilm execs met with several actresses for the role in the past two months and settled on Russell right before the Fourth of July holiday. Variety says Abrams expect to add two more actors to join the likes of Ridley, Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Kelly Marie Tran before production begins at the end of the month. While not much is known about Russell's role at this time, it is said to be action heavy. They finally decided on Russell for the role earlier this week.

Abrams previously directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first instalment in the rebooted franchise, and returned to take charge of the new movie after Colin Trevorrow dropped out over creative differences.
