Misfiring Olivier Giroud making unwanted World Cup history for France

Misfiring Olivier Giroud making unwanted World Cup history for France

Belgium assistant manager Thierry Henry has faced media scrutiny in the build-up to the World Cup semi-finals as his team prepared to take on his native France.

Friday's 2-1 victory over Brazil in the quarter-finals followed a rousing come-from-behind win over the Japanese, where Belgium found themselves two goals behind with 30 minutes to play but won 3-2 in the round of 16.

France President Emmanuel Macron is attending the World Cup semifinal between France and Belgium at St. Petersburg Stadium.

And the neighbouring towns of Wervik in Belgium and Wervicq-Sud in France will close the bridge between them to traffic on Tuesday evening, regional newspaper La Voix du Nord reported.

"For me, he is one of the three best players I have ever played with in my whole career". The Spaniard has shown great tactical pragmatism by setting up his side to suit the characteristics of his best players and exploit the weakness of opponents.

Giroud has still managed to help France to their third World Cup final in the last six tournaments, the most of any country in that time period.

"I would have preferred to have Henry on our side, to give me and the other French forwards advice, but I am not too jealous", the 31-year-old Giroud said.

France defender Benjamin Pavard also hailed Lloris' for his World Cup showings.

Earlier, the Elysee Palace also stated Macron would be taking the trip Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow welcomed the French president's decision to visit Russian Federation for the World Cup.

"It is good to see that with such a young team France is progressing well". "But he is someone I really appreciate, I'm happy for him".
