Champions League is target for record City signing Mahrez

Mahrez became the Premier League champions' club-record signing on Tuesday, signing a five-year contract worth £200,000 a week as he arrived for a fee of £60m.

The Algerian was attracted to the Blues' "ambition" and the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola.

He said: "The Champions League is for big clubs, they're a big club, they have everything to try to win it".

After four failed bids for the Algeria global, City finally got their man for a club-record fee of £60m, signing the 27-year-old to a five-year deal at the Etihad. "I don't want to talk about the past".

Mahrez, who made 179 appearances for Leicester, scoring 48 times, admits there is a fine array of attacking talent already at City, including such as Belgian Kevin de Bruyne, Argentinian Sergio Aguero, German Leroy Sane and others, but he isn't losing any sleep over where he slots in.

"The prices have been big in every country". "Competition is part of football and it is good because everyone can improve". You can improve yourself and the squad.

"Players at top clubs always have to face competition for places, it is normal for big clubs to have a lot of great players and City are a big club with a big manager", he explained.

He said: "I'm very confident about myself and I hope to help this team to improve".

"They have everything they need to succeed in the Champions League and that's where I want to play". They broke all the Premier League records which is unbelievable, but no I never thought about this.

"If I moved sooner, maybe i would have been happy, now I'm happy to be here. the most important thing".

"I'll give my best to achieve for the club. They were a little bit unlucky in the semi-final against Croatia".
