The specifications of the two smartphones are very similar, but the XA2 Plus has its own design language using a diamond cut manufacturing process that sets it apart from the XA2 Ultra, and indeed most of its direct competition.

There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor running the show. Where the XA2 Ultra comes with one RAM configuration of 4GB, the XA2 Plus comes with the option for an addition 2GB of RAM for a total of 6GB. It has a 6.0-inch FHD+ screen covered with Gorilla Glass 5.

Commenting on the launch of the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus, Hideyuki Furumi, Executive Deputy President at Sony Mobile Communications said, "Our super mid-range line inherits everything we love about the Sony innovations at the premium end of our portfolio". Both come in 32GB and 64GB storage configurations with expandable storage. There is a microSD card slot onboard, which allows storage expansion up tp 400GB via microSD card. There is Quick Charge 3.0 and Sony's Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus packs a 23-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies. Really, it comes down to whether or not you're satisfied with the current crop of mid-grade phones or would prefer Sony's latest take on Android at a more wallet-friendly price. Meanwhile, it also gets an 8MP selfie sensor, with f/2.4 aperture and a 120-degree wide-angle lens.

Just like its brethren, the fingerprint sensor - usable in all regions for authentication unlike the side-mounted solutions of yore - goes on the back and a 2:1 1080p display goes in front with some decently reduced bezels.
