'Cancel your ridiculous Putin summit,' Democrats tell Trump on Twitter

The U.S. intelligence community knows that the Russian government attacked the U.S. This is not a Republican or a Democrat view - it is simply the reality.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein says that Russian intelligence agents stole information on 500,000 US voters after hacking a state USA election board.

"Going forward, there should be no one-on-one meeting between this president and Mr. Putin", Warner told reporters on Capitol Hill. Putin has denied meddling in the election when Trump raised it before.

"President Trump must be willing to confront Putin from a position of strength and demonstrate that there will be a serious price to pay for his ongoing aggression towards the United States and democracies around the world", the Arizona senator said in a statement Friday.

"President Trump should immediately cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin", Reed said in a statement.

"Today's charges include no allegations of knowing involvement by anyone on the [Trump] campaign and no allegations that the alleged hacking affected the election result", White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters said.

Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., has been a harsh critic of Trump, recently calling his visit at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels "disappointing".

Trump said Tuesday that his meeting with Putin "may be the easiest" out of all his other meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders this week. "If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the #HelsinkiSummit should not move forward", McCain said in a series of tweets Friday.

Rosenstein said the president had been briefed on the charges earlier this week.

"I don't think you'll have any 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me, '" Trump said Friday morning before the indictments were announced. "I don't think you'll have any, 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me.' There won't be a Perry Mason here I don't think", he continued. Thus, on Saturday he will meet with the presidents of Palestine, Gabon, Sudan and Moldova. After meeting with the Russian leader in November 2017, Trump said of Russia's meddling, "Every time he sees me he says, 'I didn't do that, ' and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it".

Sen. Mark Warner: "If the President won't make Russia's attack on our election the #1 issue at the summit, then it should be canceled".

But just hours before Rosenstein's announcement, the president continued to say the investigation was a "witch hunt" and hurt the relationship between the USA and Russian Federation.
