Former Chelsea captain Terry pays tribute to sacked Conte

The Italian had two contrasting campaigns at the helm and has now vacated his post.

Everyone seems to know who their new manager is going to be, but Leeds United fans will be far more concerned with the impact that Conte's departure could have on their club. They eventually stuttered to a fifth-placed finish in the league, which has led to Conte's departure even though he did clinch the FA Cup title.

But Sarri's appointment is now set to go through and he is expected to be joined by Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola and Giovanni Martusciello, who he worked with at Empoli.

Cesc Fabregas sent a heartfelt message to Antonio Conte after it emerged the Chelsea boss had been sacked by the Blues.

Conte had always been tipped for the chop this summer and Chelsea had been negotiating for several weeks with Napoli in an effort to appoint Maurizio Sarri as his successor.

Jorginho was one of Napoli's best players in finishing second in Serie A last season to Juventus.

Fabregas mainly came off the bench for Chelsea as Conte claimed the Premier League title during his first season at the helm in 2016/17, but he enjoyed a more prominent role last term, starting 25 times in total in the top-flight. He was eventually replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on May 23 after speculation that Sarri's buyout clause would be activated by another club. Sarri used powerful yet technically gifted midfielders at Napoli such as Amadou Diawara and Allan, so Loftus-Cheek could feature in his plans.

Real Madrid are believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer with Courtois on their wishlist alongside Roma's Alisson.

Under Sarri's tutelage, Dries Mertens has been transformed into one of the continent's most potent attacking threats, the Belgian scoring a whopping 56 goals in the last two seasons for the free-flowing Partenopei.
