Kim Jong-un Blew Off Mike Pompeo to Visit a Potato Farm

"A very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea", Trump said in his tweet. Great progress being made!'

When the USA officials called the North Korean side at Panmunjom later Thursday, it proposed a generals' meeting with the United States on Sunday, South Korean officials said.

The fact that Kim Jong Un's letter says Trump took "energetic and extraordinary" efforts, it's most telling that Un admits only to taking "future process of taking practical actions", but says nothing of what was achieved during the Trump-Kim Summit.

The letter from Kim, shared via the President's Twitter was dated July 6, the same day that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in North Korea to negotiate details of the proposed denuclearization of North Korea.

The remains of the United Nations soldier honored Friday were found by South Korean search teams in 2016 in the Cheorwon area of Gangwon province, near the eastern border with the North.

In a tweet, Trump posted copies of the note - both in Korean and translated into English - in which Kim states that the summit was the "start of a meaningful journey" and that a "new future" between the United States and North Korea "will surely come to fruition".

"North Korea would have to deal with the consequences of breaking away from the negotiations if it were to do so, so it will likely not make an extreme decision", Kim said. The U.S. also risks giving the North Koreans leverage to continue diplomacy and drag out disarmament talks.

But following the meeting, North Korea released a statement calling the meeting "regrettable" and accusing the U.S. of using "gangster-like" tactics to push it towards nuclear disarmament.

North Korean officials have failed to turn up for talks with a United States team on the repatriation of the remains of American soldiers killed in the Korean war.

Trump met with Kim in Singapore on June 12-the first meeting between leaders of the two countries.

Pompeo had said a Pentagon team would meet with the North's officials on or around Thursday at the inter-Korea border to discuss the repatriation.

He said he saw a big difference in North Korea's attitudes to talks. -North Korea relations worsened over North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

"We will be ready", Nauert said. "Should the headwind begin to blow, it would cause great disappointment not only to the worldwide society aspiring after global peace and security, but also to both" the US and North Korea.
