Trump meets with Theresa May after candid British tabloid interview

During the interview with The Sun ahead of his visit to the UK, Trump said May ignored his advice by taking a soft stance on trade with the European Union as the UK exits and said that decision would "kill" any chance of an effective trade deal with the U.S.

"I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn't agree, she didn't listen to me", Trump added.

But over on social media, it's also triggered a new meme, which involves a certain current British prime minister - who has been pictured looking positively smitten with her new guest.

"We wanted to embarrass him and I think we have done that today".

Addressing the row at a joint news conference with Mrs May on Friday, Mr Trump claimed he "didn't criticise" Mrs May and has a "lot of respect" for her.

Speaking to the Sun, Trump revealed that he'd been warned about the Trump baby blimp that would be flying above Parliament Square, saying: "I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London". "I was very saddened to see he was leaving government, and I hope he goes back in at some point".

Asked about that interview, Trump said he had not criticized May, lavishing praise on "a terrific woman", who was smart, tough and capable. May were to hold lengthy discussions at the Prime Minister's country retreat called Chequers. "As he said in his interview with The Sun she is a very good person and he never said anything bad about her", Sanders said. "He thought she was great on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation today and is a really terrific person".

Trump first met May Thursday night and the pair spoke for about 90 minutes and attended a state dinner.

Mr Trump will also be preparing for his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday, his aides say.

Trump and May watched a display of military special forces on Friday before their formal talks which were due to include Russian Federation, ahead of a summit in Finland on Monday between Trump and President Vladimir Putin. With the U.K.'s departure from the European Union set to take place in eight months, the nation's forwarding community is giving the plan mixed reviews.

US President Donald Trump and Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May shake hands during a press conference following their meeting at Chequers, the prime minister's country residence, near Ellesborough, northwest of London on the second day of Trump's United Kingdom visit.

President Donald Trump once again falsely claimed he "predicted" Brexit.

Trump's comments blaming immigration for crime in England were "preposterous", he said.

"Theresa May should condemn Trump for this ugly dog-whistle politics, and apologise for Zac Goldsmith's disgraceful London mayoral campaign, which these remarks echo".

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who was criticised by Trump in the Sun interview for failing to control crime and prevent militant attacks, gave his blessing for the blimp to be flown and rejected suggestions this showed a lack of respect to the US president.
