Confident Mahrez expects important Manchester City role

Confident Mahrez expects important Manchester City role

Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City's Harry Maguire this summer.

Benjamin Mendy has welcomed new signing Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City.

Manchester City's record signing, Riyad Mahrez, is confident he cannot only break into the champions' first team but also help improve it.

"Pep is a big manager who has won a lot of things and made history at this club", he said.

Maguire, who started his career at Sheffield United and has worked his way up into the Premier League, was not only an eye-catching performer defensively, but he showed he was a real menace from set-pieces, and he scored a sublime headed goal against Sweden in England's 2-0 quarter-final win. It is a goal.

Yet Mahrez, who joined Man City on Tuesday for a fee reported by British media to be 60 million pounds ($79 million), feels that they have the tools required to lift European club football's elite trophy next season on Thursday. I made the decision to come here because I want to be part of that.

"He's a very good player", Mahrez told reporters, about his former team-mate.

The African star was expected to join City in January this year, but after the Foxes struggled to find an adequate replacement for the winger in time before the window closed, the player remained at Leicester.

No doubt Leicester's Thai owners will do all they can to keep hold of the defender but the newspaper says Man Utd are ready to pay £50m to sign Maguire - which would represent a huge profit on the £17m the Foxes paid just 12 months ago.

"I think he has more quality and can be a bigger player than I was, but we need to see how far he can push himself".

"I never thought about [not getting in the team]".

"Now it's time for me to move on and try to build on what I have developed here, but I will always remember my time at the club with great joy and pride".

Benarbia played most of his football in France and like Mahrez, spent most of his life there before moving to England.
