Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for parts of the GTA

The advisories warn that the affected areas could see storms capable of producing "strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain".

Residents are reminded to stay indoors when there is a severe thunderstorm in the area.

A low pressure system moving through the province on Wednesday should bring scattered showers and cooler temperatures to the region, according to the forecast. "The severe weather threat will diminish this evening", the national weather agency said in its advisory Monday.

A heat warning has been issued for Calgary, with high temperatures hovering around 30 C expected Monday and Tuesday.

The agency is advising the public that fast-moving water across roads can sweep vehicles away and large hail can damage property and cause injury. "Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles", Environment Canada said.

A heat warning issued Saturday by Environment Canada remains in effect today as temperatures are likely to climb to 31 C, feeling more like 38 with humidity.

Temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are expected.

The City of Toronto also issued its own warning over the weekend following prolonged heat and humidity.
