Manny Machado and Orioles Aren't Hiding From the Inevitable

MLB.com's Jon Morosi says that the Phillies' willingness to include pitching prospect Adonis Medina in a deal could help sway Baltimore to make the trade.

Orioles all-star shortstop Manny Machado, who homered in the first inning but was removed in the fourth as a precaution on a wet day, has some fun during the sixth inning.

However, another executive involved in the process said the impression still is that, as of Tuesday morning, no team had definitively been told it is getting Machado, though this executive said there would now be surprise if a trade were not finalized before the second half began.

Machado, who has been the subject of rampant trade rumors, didn't get traded. The move was created to get their star player off a sloppy field, because the last-place Orioles are entertaining offers for Machado before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Machado was one of the best third basemen in the game, now he's one of the best shortstops. "I'm the type of player, once I get in there, I'm locked in".

Machado, 26, was drafted by the Orioles with the No. 3 pick in 2010 and has been a starter in Baltimore since 2012. Of course, any acquiring team would be moving ahead with the trade primarily because of the threat Machado brings to a lineup. "To go out there and not know where you're going to be tomorrow, it's kind of tough".

Reports have linked Machado with several teams including the New York Yankees.

Circling back to Machado, Salisbury said league sources told him the Philies are one of three teams - along with the Dodgers and Brewers - that are waiting for a decision on Machado. "If not, I'll be there on Friday (in Toronto), back with my teammates".

Machado could certainly be traded soon after the All-Star Game.

"To see the guys around the clubhouse, it's pretty awesome", Machado said.

Martinez, a Pembroke Pines Flanagan alum, is having an MVP-caliber year in his first season in Boston with a major-league best 29 home runs and 80 RBI at the All-Star break. "I'm going to continue to be myself and enjoy myself and go out there and leave it on the field". We recommend that you read our updated Privacy & Cookies Policy in full.

Texas broke on top when Miguel Castro issued three straight walks and Guzman sent a one-out drive over the right-field wall for his first career grand slam.

"I'm trying not to think about it", Machado said.
