Over 10 per cent of Croatia's population welcomes World Cup heroes home

Croats laid on a spectacular welcome-home party for the Croatian national team after its 4-2 loss in the final of the World Cup in Russian Federation - the furthest Croatia has ever got in the global soccer tournament.

"We are, of course, ready to share the experience we acquired in hosting the World Cup this year along with our friends, " the Russian President said. What more can we ask of in a World Cup final?

Russia-bashing was on full-display, with influential Twitter handles taking a shot at President Putin, accusing him of ill-treating his guests and respected foreign dignitaries.

As France clinched its second-ever World Cup win over Croatia thanks to goals by migrants and a Muslim, fans and onlookers quickly pointed out the need for the country to apply its victories on the field to life off the field. Not many have forgotten the first French win 20 years ago, when it hosted the World Cup and drubbed favourites Brazil, leading to mammoth crowds converging on the Champs-Elysees to celebrate the victory.

"A score of 4-2 in a final- I can't remember seeing a score like that and few people could". US actor and rapper Will Smith, US singer Nicky Jam and Albanian singer Era Istrefi got together to sing the tournament's official song, "Live It Up".

The football-loving 40-year-old leapt to his feet to celebrate France's goals as he attended the game in Moscow alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. "These boys are world champions for us, they taught us about heart and unity", said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic who watched the match with fans in a downtown fan zone.

His Highness the Amir left Moscow on Sunday evening.

"Croatia was just a step away from football immortality", said the website.

"We're glad that they liked our hospitality and openness, nature, culture, traditions of our big country, " Mr Putin said.
