He said an off-duty sheriff's deputy working security helped rescue people and that recovery efforts were ongoing, with some passengers still accounted for.

The accident happened at about 7:10 p.m. CT on Thursday when a severe thunderstorm hit the area near Branson.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said a tourist boat reportedly sank on Table Rock Lake. The sheriff says he does not know how many on the boat are missing.

"Sustained winds over 40 mph, lightning, moderate rain and lowered visibility to as low as 2 miles may have contributed to this incident", said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles. Dive teams are still in the water continuing to look for missing people who were on the boat.

Investigators stated the vessel ended up sinking in the lake.
