The sensational move from United will likely push Martial closer to the exit with Jose Mourinho keen to sell him for £70m.

Martial started both of United's opening matches on their pre-season tour of the U.S. before being allowed to leave so he could attend the birth of his second child.

Martial, 22, left United's Los Angeles training camp last week to attend the birth of his son, but after the safe arrival of Swan Anthony, he did not return to United's preseason tour of the United States or report back to Carrington.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he "doesn't know" when forward Anthony Martial will link up with the squad after his side beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the International Champions Cup.

Mourinho was asked again whether Martial would return to the fold, replying: "I don't know".

The trio, who all featured in the World Cup, will return three days earlier than scheduled to be ready for United's first game on August 10 against Leicester City, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Mourinho: "In a few days, we go to Munich and in 11 days, we start the Premier League and these are the players that we have, plus (Victor) Lindelof, that started training two days ago".

"So if I get one player until the end of the market, that's fine".

"I didn't learn anything", said Mourinho.

'Alexis Sanchez is fresh, the way the man is running, I think he is in a fantastic condition.

"I know that my players gave everything and in the last 15 minutes we were dead and they bring on Marco Asensio and Isco, and I thought we wouldn't resist it".

"But the boys tried everything and gave everything and we always have to try to fight for the best result".

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will take to the pitch for the first time since winning a third straight Champions League title in May, beginning life without Cristiano Ronaldo under new manager Julen Lopetegui.
