A move for either would nearly certainly see other defenders leaving Old Trafford.

Aside from Rojo, the Toffees have also been credited with an interest for Barcelona duo Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina this month but they could potentially face competition from United for the latter.

The Argentina global has recently been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho keen on pursuing a new central defender before the transfer deadline. Rojo is now nursing a knock he picked up playing for Argentina in Russian Federation.

The report suggests that Leicester would want £80million to part ways with the player. But instead of joining Jose Mourinho's squad in Los Angeles, he will return to his home in Wilmslow.

According to The Independent, newly-promoted Wolves are closely monitoring the situation surrounding the 28-year-old, and could make a move if United decide to sell. United hold an interest in Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld, but Leicester and Tottenham are proving tough negotiators.

Rojo's sale will strengthen Mourinho's case to splash out on another centre-back.

Marcos Rojo's days at the club appear numbered, despite him being a regular for Argentina in the World Cup and scoring a crucial victor against Nigeria. Naturally enough, he has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United, who are now open to selling the Argentine worldwide.

The reason Rojo is on the chopping block at Manchester United is their pursuit of a top class centre-back for the third successive summer window. The midfielder signed a two-year deal last summer and spent time at FC Utrecht and St Johnstone last season.
