JJ Abrams Shares First Set Pic From Star Wars: Episode IX

This first "on-set" photo suggests that Abrams is going to continue his annoying habit of sharing exclusive set photos that reveal absolutely nothing - exactly as he did during The Force Awakens.

What can we learn from this first official release from the production? The main cast from The Last Jedi also is back for the otherwise untitled Episode IX: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Fisher's daughter, Bille Lourd. It's harder to tell who's in the pilot seat though-you'd perhaps assume Rey, but the costume doesn't look like her training robes.

The next movie in the long-running Star Wars saga is being shot in London, and director JJ Abrams has tweeted the first image from the set and paid tribute to the late Carrie Fisher.

Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed on Friday that Fisher would be appearing in "Episode IX," which is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.

The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The film will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan, and executive produced by Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin.

Episode IX begins production today, August 1, at Pinewood Studios in London, its stars are keeping fit for all the space drama they're sure to be a part of.
