Killed When Light Plane from Concord Crashes in SoCal

Five people were killed after a Cessna 414 plane fell from the skies onto a vehicle parked in front of an office supplies store in Santa Ana on Sunday afternoon.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash. According to the FAA, the pilot of the aircraft, which is registered to a San Franciso corportation, declared a Mayday shortly before the crash. Luckily, the driver of the parked auto was shopping inside the store when the plane descended on his vehicle, the spokesman said.

"I don't know anything about what this pilot did, or what he was thinking, but it could have been much more tragic", Orange County Fire Authority Capt. "You just felt the ground move", she said.

Another witness told local news media that he was coming out of a sushi restaurant when he saw the plane flying low.

"There was no fire, no flames, no smoke, nothing. It was nearly silent", she said.

The aircraft struck the ground about a mile from Orange County's John Wayne Airport.

Tweets from people near the scene show a crumpled plane among the cars and palm trees of the parking lot.

Shortly after declaring an emergency on Sunday afternoon the plane suddenly nosedived into the parking lot.
