NASCAR Chairman Brian France Arrested For DUI, Drug Possession

NASCAR CEO and Chairman Brian France was charged Sunday night for aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Details surrounding France's arrest were not released. He was arraigned Monday at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released.

The 56-year-old was stopped after blowing through a stop sign around 7:30 p.m.in Sag Harbor, New York while operating a 2017 Lexus, police said. Police found the oxycodone after a search when he was pulled over.

During the traffic stop, police determined France was operating his vehicle "in an intoxicated condition, Drake said". He was released from a local jail following his arraingment on Monday morning.

France could not be reached for comment. His arrest occurred mere hours after Chase Elliott prevailed at Watkins Glen International to earn his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory.

And sources tell us ... during the process, France was name-dropping all of the powerful people he knew and even mentioned his relationship with President Donald Trump. His grandfather, Bill France Jr., founded NASCAR in 1948.

Brian France became NASCAR's chairman and CEO in September 2003, assuming leadership of the organization from his father, the late William C. France.
