Jackson, Cobie Smulders confirmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home

Jackson, Cobie Smulders confirmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home

However the good news is that it looks like both characters didn't die for real, because both of them are expected to play a role in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel.

After briefly appearing in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, former SHIELD agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill will be getting involved in Spider-Man's upcoming adventure overseas. Jake Gyllenhaal will reportedly join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Mysterio, and last month we got word that comedic star J.B. J. B. Smoove and Numan Acar are also on board in undisclosed roles.

Vulture reported the news first (that's Vulture the entertainment news site, not Vulture the Michael Keaton bad guy from the first movie - although he's reportedly set to return in Far From Home, too). We know that Captain Marvel - the film - takes place in the "90s, decades before the events of Infinity War".

Well, we now know at least two of Thanos' victims are finding a way back, with Nick Fury and Maria Hill confirmed to be returning for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Sony had no comment.

The last time we saw Nick Fury and Maria Hill, they were blowing around NY in a pile of dust at the end of Infinity War, the final victims of Thanos' deadly finger snap. Though Infinity War found Jackson's Fury and Smulder's Hill both dissipating into nothingness courtesy of the Mad Titan, it would appear that they'll ultimately find themselves on the winning side. After all, Tony Stark dubbed him an Avenger during Infinity War. How all of this plays out onscreen is still anyone's guess, but if you dig Jackson as Fury, get ready to see a lot more of him.
