Ben Schwartz to voice Sonic the Hedgehog in live-action movie

Ben Schwartz to voice Sonic the Hedgehog in live-action movie

Ben Schwartz is making a dash for Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog.

Based on the long-running (pun intended) Sega video game character and mascot, Sonic is a sprinting blue hedgehog on an endless quest to defeat Doctor Robotnik, a scientist who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen magical Chaos Emeralds.

Schwartz has voiced Dewey Duck on Disney Channel's reboot of Duck Tales and is also voicing Leonardo in Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Schwartz is certainly an in-demand voice actor now, and perhaps not coincidentally, this facet of his career really took off after the actor lent his voice to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, we all know who the most ridiculous cartoon character brought to life by Schwartz is. We're noticing a lot of blue with this one. In addition to Carey, the movie features James Marsden (Westworld) and Tika Sumpter (Ride Along). Fowler also co-directed the 2005 Oscar-nominated animated short "Gopher Broke". Meanwhile, the film will be produced by Deadpool director Tim Miller, along with Toby Ascher and Neal H. Moritz.

Carrey finalized negotiations to play the Sonic villain earlier this summer, and is now confirmed to portray him in the upcoming 2019 film.
