Chelsea Keeper Thibaut Courtois Joins Real Madrid

Chelsea have tonight announced an agreement with Real Madrid that will see Thibaut Courtois leave Stamford Bridge and Mateo Kovacic travel in the opposite direction on loan.

AS said: "Chelsea gives Courtois up for lost and wants (Athletic Bilbao's) Kepa Arrizabalaga as replacement".

The 22-year old will displace Liverpool's Alisson as the most expensive goalkeeper in world football, just a couple of weeks on from the Brazilian's £67 million move to Anfield.

Real Madrid on the other hand have until the end of the month to do their business.

Madrid had been keen to keep him at the club, but his public display of conflict and angling for a move has seemingly left them with no choice but to accept a loan offer from Chelsea.

Just weeks after Liverpool broke the record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to 72.5 million euros for Brazilian global Alisson Becker, the inexperienced Kepa, 23, now inherits the title of the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

Real, meanwhile, confirmed Courtois will undergo a medical on Thursday morning before signing a six-year deal.

"It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life", Kepa told Chelsea's website.

The 31-year-old has won three Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup trophies, two UEFA Super Cups, a La Liga and Supercopa de Espana title since taking over for club legend Iker Casillas.

Athletic Bilbao confirmed on Wednesday that Kepa's release clause had been activated, paving the way for his Premier League switch.

"Athletic thank the player for his contribution throughout the time he has been at the club".

There is also speculation that Chelsea could try to sign Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.
