Could the Green Bay Packers Really Trade for Khalil Mack?

"And if a team flashed a first-round pick at Oakland for the services of Mack, who wants an extension beyond the nearly $13.5 million he is scheduled to make this season under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and the two franchise tags that could await him in 2019 and 2020, the Raiders would be silly to not at least listen".

Gutekunst was specifically asked if he'd call Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, a former Packers scout and personnel executive, about Mack's availability. Remember, Cooper shares an agent with Mack, so we should probably be prepared for another offseason merry-go-round in 2019.

Mack, who is holding out in order to force Oakland to cut him a new and more lucrative check, is being rumored to be a trade candidate.

Whether or not the two have spoken to each other is a separate issue, since Mack's contract remains the main concern among Raiders fans.

Mack, a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the game's top pass rushers, is now holding out from Raiders camp while attempting to get a new deal.

And the Raiders simply aren't willing to give him that kind of money.

But, apparently Mack wants even more than that.

The Packers would seem to have the resources necessary to land an elite player like Mack. The Rams bolstered their roster big time this offseason, and a win against them would likely change the way the media sees this team moving forward.

For these reasons, I believe that the Packers should enter into serious negotiations with the Raiders if Mack is indeed on the trade block.

Let me be clear, nothing in the National Football League is guaranteed, however, there have been years during the Packers playoff runs where it seemed as if the team was lacking one major piece that would have gotten them over the mountaintop. Needless to say, he's one of the top five edge rushers in the game.

If the Raiders got a draft pick (s) in a potential deal for Mack, the odds of them using that selection to acquire another Pro Bowl-caliber defensive end are not very high.
