Goo-gle gaga: Parenting in the age of Alexa and her ilk

The light on your Echo device will pulse and you'll hear a notification chime - ask Alexa what the update is, and she'll let you know that's she's learned the answer to a question she previously couldn't answer for you. Ages later. Probably too late and when you've forgotten why you were asking or found out another way. Alexa will respond, "Okay, I won't notify you when I find out about answers to questions you asked earlier". Clever things, these AIs. "The Alexa service is getting smarter every day, and Answer Updates is just another way we're continuing to expand Alexa's Knowledge Graph", an Amazon spokesperson told the site.

"If you ask me a question and I don't know the answer but I find out later, I'll notify you", Alexa explained, according to the report.

An update is rolling out over the next week that will add a new feature called "Answer Update" to Alexa. Spotted by Voicebox, the feature has started showing up on some Alexa-enabled devices in the US. The capability can also be enabled by saying, "Alexa, turn on Answer Update".

This promotion is only available to those who have an Alexa-enabled device, like the Echo Dot linked to their Amazon account, but at this point that's likely most of you. Hopefully, this kink will be worked out in the coming weeks, as Amazon continues testing the feature.
